Karnataka has lost a great actor of his times kannada's lion Vishnuvardhan as they call him. He passed away today due to a heart attack. This unfortunate event let loose chaos in Bengaluru city as thousands of people gatherred to pay tribute to the great hero. Along with this news, another headlines of a leading news channels website read "4 CRPF Jawans killed by millitants".
Well, we hear such kind of news nearly twice a day and dont give much thought to it. We surely dont disrespect their sacrifice for the security of the nation. But we also dont think much or mourn over their demise because of our busy daily schedule. This post is not to criticise our system or to sting on our ignorance on this issue.
Unknowingly I just grew curious to know the names of these martyrs and inorder to find them I read the whole news article but the information was no where mentioned. Dont these people atleast deserve to get their names revealed to the whole nation for whom they have sacrificed their life??
May be not. They too are just employees like us. arent they ?? They get paid for whatever they do, like us. dont they ?? They also take holidays, get their benefits, pay taxes just like us. dont they ?? Then what makes them different or special ??
I wonder does this lack of attention from the whole country demoralise our soldiers.?? Do they think that they are risking their lives for people who wouldnt even recognize their contribution ?? Do they wish that their names should be rememberred by the people for whom they gave away their lives ??
I pondered a lot for while over all these open questions. I guess there are no authentic answers to these questions. I could not come to a very firm conclusion. Then I thought may be if I could relate it to some of the people I know who are in the defense services, probably then I can give it a clear thought.
I could remember one of my senior student back in school. He was a stud. A MBiPC student who topped the Class, excellent in sports. He was a school hero during the sports meets. He easily cleared PET and PMT the engg and medical entrances in MP. Later we moved to coimbatore and I never heard of him again. Incidently, I met her sister on one of the social networking sites and when I enquired about his whereabout. I was amazed to hear that he was in the army now. Further he was a Captain in the BSF posted in the Leh region. As told it was his dream to be in the army. Now I srely look up to him for the choice he made and the strength he had to take a decision and fulfil his dream. Probably most of us or atleast myself might have made the other choice for better job prospects.
The point I want to make is that the people in the armed forces are not doing just another job, they are doing THE job to protect their nation. There are people for whom it is not a profession, its a passion. They might not be Heroes but they are distinguished for sure. They are special. What makes them more special is that they know that even if they die on duty their names will either not mentioned or forgotten soon. But they care the least about it. It doesnt bother them much. What they are doing is more of importance to them.
From today onwards I have decided that whenever I come accross any such unfortunate I would take a little pain and dig out their names and alteast remember them for a few minutes as a token of respect for their sacrifice.
Rest In Peace
